KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and medical activist Dr Govinda KC held a meeting today at the former’s official residence in Baluwatar to discuss the implementation of the recent nine-point agreement signed between the government and Dr KC.
According to Dr KC’s aide Pritam Subedi, the discussion went around for nearly two hours.
“At the meeting, Dr KC reiterated that if the government fails to implement the recent agreement, he would go on another fast unto death. However, the Prime Minister assured him that the need for another hunger strike would not arise,” Dr Abhishek Raj Singh, one of today’s meeting’s partaker and KC’s long-term aide told THT Online.
Dr Singh further stated that PM Oli has called Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel to discuss the formation of a task force to implement the recently struck agreement following the senior orthopedic surgeon’s 27-day long hunger-unto-death demanding reforms in Medical Education.
The government has agreed to amend 22 provisions of the Medical Education Bill in accordance with Dr KC’s demands.
Along with Dr KC, advocates Surendra Bhandari and Om Prakash Aryal, and Dr Abhishek Raj Singh, Dr Bishwa Raj Timilisina, Bishad Dahal and Pritam Subedi had attended the discussion. On behalf of the government, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, his chief advisor Bishnu Rimal and press advisor Kundan Aryal were present at the meeting.
